Ford entered the diesel industry with a mere 170 hp & 338 lb-ft of torque. Believe it or not, this was considered a lot in 1983, and the highly sought after International 6.9L had a great reputation of reliability. It is amazing how far Ford has come in the diesel market today, offering their own, Ford Motor Company built 6.7L Power Stroke with 400 hp and 800 lb-ft of torque. Though naturally aspirated worked "back in the day", Ford did not even settle for a standard turbocharger on their new design. Rather, they equipped the 6.7L with the top of the line DualBoost, twin compressor turbocharger.
